We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Estimator to lead and expand our estimating department as we enter the next phase of growth in our 120-year-old family business. As Chief Estimator, you will provide mentorship and training to ensure the department operates at peak performance, continuously developing the skills of the team to meet and exceed company objectives. You will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of estimates for complex and large-scale sitework and earthwork projects, including conceptual estimates, negotiated and public bids, budgets, and value engineering. Additionally, you will work closely with the business development team to secure new opportunities through presentations and client engagements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the estimating team in preparing accurate, detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, with a focus on sitework and excavation.
Review and analyze construction documents, including blueprints, specifications, and proposals, to accurately estimate costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Utilize advanced estimating software (Procore, OST, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, OnScreen Takeoff, B2W Estimate, Agtek Earthwork, ProEst etc.) to develop estimates and track costs throughout the project lifecycle.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure cost accuracy by evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids against project requirements.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project scope, while identifying opportunities for value engineering.
Participate in business development efforts, including proposal preparations, presentations, and interviews, to secure new projects.
Stay current with industry trends, construction methods, and advancements in materials and technology to continually improve estimating processes.
Implement and manage departmental initiatives that align with company goals and strategic growth plans.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Leadership: Proven experience in leading and mentoring a team, with the ability to foster collaboration and drive results.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction processes, particularly in sitework, excavation, and earthmoving. Proficient in industry-standard estimating software (Procore, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam) and familiar with CADD and Excel.
